UNIFORMS AND PERSONAL APPEARANCE CODE |
| Students in all grade levels at SJEDS wear uniforms which must be purchased from the vendors approved by the school. Students are expected to arrive and depart school properly dressed in full uniform (collars buttoned, ties tied, shirttails tucked in, shoes properly tied). The school uniform consists of a summer uniform and a winter uniform. The summer uniform is worn from the opening of school through October 31, and from the first day of school after Easter through the end of school. The winter uniform is worn from November 1 until Easter. Summer and winter garments may not be "mixed and matched". |
| Girls' Uniform |
Summer -grades pk-6
- White collared knit shirt with banded bottom, embroidered with the school logo
- Navy blue skort (no shorter than 3" above the top of the knee)
Winter:
- Pre-kindergarten through third grade wear uniform plaid jumper, white blouse with Peter-Pan collar and navy blue cross tie.
- Fourth through sixth grade girls wear uniform plaid skirt (no shorter than 2" above the top of the knee), white short or long-sleeved shirt, and navy blue cross tie. The shirt must be tucked in at the waist.
- All girls must wear navy blue shorts under the uniform skirt or jumper. The shorts must not show below the hem line.
- In very cold weather, navy blue tights may be worn in lieu of the shorts.
- All girls wear white socks.

Boys' Uniform
Summer -grades pk-6
- White collared golf shirt, embroidered with the school logo.
- Navy blue, pleated front Bermuda shorts. Shorts must be worn at the natural waist and at the top of or just above the knee. Shorts that are cargo style, with painter's loops, surfer baggy, or below the knee are not acceptable.
Winter:
- All boys wear navy blue pleated or plain front slacks
- Boys in PK and Kindergarten wear the white golf shirt (long or short sleeve) embroidered with the school logo.
- Boys in grades one through six wear white long or short-sleeved dress shirt and navy blue tie. Shirts must be worn tucked in.
- Undershirts at any grade level must be white and free of pictures or writing.
- All boys wear navy blue or white socks.
- All boys must wear a solid black, brown, or navy belt if pants have belt loops.

| No logo is allowed on any clothing (sweaters, sweatshirts, socks, jackets, shirts) except the SJEDS logo. |
| Shoes |
| White tennis (athletic) shoes are preferred for all students . They should be in keeping with the uniform-no boots, sandals, flip-flops, high-top tennis shoes, blinking lights, colored tennis shoes, or faddish shoes may be worn. Girls in lower grades may wear navy blue or black Mary-Jane style shoes. Boys may wear black athletic shoes. Shoes are expected to be properly tied at all times. |
| Cold Weather Garments |
In cold weather students are allowed to wear either solid navy blue sweaters or sweatshirts (without lettering or branding), or the SJEDS sweatshirt sold by the Parents' Association, in the classroom. Heavy coats, hats, and gloves are not permitted in the classroom. Denim jackets are not permitted. |
| Jewelry |
| Conservative jewelry may be worn. Girls may wear small, non-dangling post earrings only. Boys are not permitted to wear earrings. Any questionable jewelry will be left to the discretion of the teacher and/or administration. |
| Hair Styles |
| Hairstyles should be consistent with good grooming and cleanliness. Boy's hair should be above the collar in length, out of the eyes, and in keeping with the SJEDS code. Girls may not wear excessive hair jewelry, extensions, or additions that become a distraction. Bleached, tipped, or dyed hair is not appropriate for elementary age students. |
| Fingernail Polish, Make-up |
| Girls may wear clear fingernail polish only. Make-up is not permitted at school. Tattoos, permanent or non-permanent, are not permitted. |
| Special Event Days |
On designated days students are allowed to wear jeans and t-shirts or costumes that are appropriate for the occasion. SJEDS t-shirt, Fruits of the Spirit T-shirts, and "6th grade is special" shirts are allowed. Jeans must be traditional, fitted blue jeans. Baggy, loose fitting, cargo loops, stacked hems jeans are not permitted. Girls may wear jeans skirts with shorts underneath. Hat, sunglasses, or special accessories may be permitted. |
