Amazing Race - Day 2

A DETOUR is a choice between two tasks, each with its own pros and cons. The team will vote which task to perform. Majority wins. Teams must successfully complete one of the tasks described on the clue in order receive points.

CHOICE 1:

Proverbs should imitate the style and tone of the Proverbs of Confucius by writing their own. Students will read each proverb and then decide as a team to hand in the best 10 of the class. 5 Points will be given to each Proverb that meets the criteria. See Samples of Confucius Poems.

CHOICE 2:

Read samples of different kinds of acrostic poems. Have students brainstorm some words relating to the study of China to use as an acrostic poem. The class will pick several words that they will complete in groups. Research through the links provided or through Encyclopedia Britannica for these words.

Points will be awarded according to the amount of letters used in all the poems combined. 5 Points for each letter.

Dear Mrs. Tolisano & Ms. St. Cyr,

I was so impressed with the 5th graders during this event. They took all that they have learned about China and applied it to their acrostic poems. It was hard to choose a winner!
