Here is your sixth letter for the China ABC Puzzle:

“C” stands for Confucius.

Confucius was a Chinese philosopher and reformer. Many people in China follow his philosophy and teachings. As our tour guide was explaining to us it is a way of life. When you don’t know what to do or how to behave you read Confucius’ teachings and it will lead your way.

Here are some of his proverbs.

Problem Solving

  • A man who has committed a mistake and doesn’t correct it is committing another mistake.

Wisdom

  • Everything has its beauty, but not everyone sees it.
  • The superior man is modest in his speech but exceeds in his actions.
  • Mankind differs from the animals only by a little, and most people throw that away.
  • We don’t know yet about life, how can we know about death?

Work

  • Look for an occupation that you like, and you will not need to labor for a single day in your life.
  • If you enjoy what you do, you’ll never work another day in your life.
  • Overcoming Failure
  • Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall.

Knowledge

  • Real knowledge is to know the extent of one’s ignorance.
  • He who merely knows right principles is not equal to him who loves them.
  • Virtue is not left to stand alone. He who practices it will have.

On truth

  • Those who know the truth are not up to those who love it; those who love the truth are not up to those who delight in it.

On education

  • In education there are no class distinction.

On government

  • If a ruler himself is upright, all will go well without orders. But if he himself is not upright, even though he gives orders the will not be obeyed.

Happiness

  • To be truly happy and contented, you must let go of what it means to be happy or content.
  • They must often change, who would be constant in happiness or wisdom.
