What do they have in common?

You will look at several photos we took in the last few days. Can you tell what ALL these photos have in common. You will need to think as a Chinese girl or boy and then you will be able to figure it out.

Beijing 017 Beijing 123 Beijing 122 Beijing 008 Beijing 132We wonder which class will be able to come up with the answer. Can’t wait to hear your comments.

We think that what they have in common is the number nine. There are nine statues, nine steps, nine segments on the door, etc. Since nine is a lucky number which means “longlasting”, and these look like old structures, it makes sense to us. That’s our guess.

    Great guesses!
    And the winner is….
    … Mrs. McKnight’s class !!!!

You were right about the importance of the number 9 in the Chinese culture. It is the highest number. 10 already uses number 1 and number 0. Check out this post about more info on the importance on numbers.
The pictures were taken at the Forbidden City, Temple of Heaven and Summer Palace.

    Good job!
