Oh, Boy! What fun it was to have Jose visit us in our classroom! He joined us during center time and even watched while we painted and counted. He put on the earphones and listened to music and a story. We think he liked the sand table a lot. He even sat in it! We love to cook in our class and Jose enjoyed a delicious snack with us. In math we graphed three activities that he experienced and our exercise showed that snacktime was Jose’s favorite. We have enjoyed our map skills and we agree that the best mode of transportation for traveling to China would be by plane. We can’t wait to see all of the pictures of Jose on his trip, especially when he wears the jacket and pants that we bought for him. We will eagerly await his return!

We thoroughly enjoyed having Jose in our class. Jose had so much fun during our centers. He helped the children build the Great Wall of China with the blocks, he made spooky spider webs and showed us where China is on our world map. At the end of the day we sat as a group and had question time. The most common question asked was how long it would take Jose to get to China by plane. Mrs. Tolisano told Jose it would take 15 hours and 55 minutes and 2 planes. Jose loved his new pair of overalls and plaid shirt our class bought for him. He will be easy for us to recognize in China. We look forward to hearing from Jose in China and we hope he has a great trip.

    Dear Jose,

We enjoyed meeting you and wish you well on your trip to China. Since you were in our room we have been reading the book “Day of the Dragon King”. It is the Magic Tree House book where Jack and Annie visit ancient China. In the book they get lost in the Dragon King’s tomb. Inside the tomb they find 7,000 clay soldiers. Jack and Annie think all the soldiers are different. Jose, when you visit the soldiers would you look and see if all the faces are different?

    Love,
    Mrs. Balek’s Kindergarten Class

We loved having Jose visit our class. He enjoyed our circle time and also our little Halloween party we had on Tuesday. Each of us had a chance to introduce ourselves to Jose and before he left wish him well on his long journey to China.

The children asked Jose to report back to us from China about: the food. How does the food in China taste. Is there a McDonald’s in China?

What will Jose do on the plane ride to pass the time on such a long flight?

Is everyone in China a black belt in Karate?

Did he make any new friends when he visited the school in China and did he give the teacher the apple in his back back?

Enjoy your trip Jose. We will miss you but look forward to hearing all about your exciting trip!!!!

Jose arrived in Mrs. Corso’s class early Thursday morning. He made himself at home visiting with Little Red, our class mascot and Lone Warrior, our class pet. Jose had a very busy day while in class. He enthusiastically participated in morning meeting where everyone introduced themselves and asked him lots of questions. He proudly showed the children the supplies he put in his backpack for his trip and helped them locate China on the globe. When morning meeting was over he watched as the children completed each workshop rotation. He enjoyed seeing them journal write, create patterns using cuisenaire rods, and paint. What a smart class! Lunch in the cafeteria and playground time were a blast. On Friday Mrs. Tolisano came into our class and talked about some of the sites Jose would see on his trip to China. Before he left to visit first grade we took a class photo so he would remember us. Thanks for visiting our class! Have a safe trip.

  6. [...] As ideas for student involvement grew in developmentally appropriate ways, Jose, the Bear was born on October 7, at a local bear making factory.  There is nothing like a teddy bear to capture the interest of children.  Tucked inside the stuffing is a heart on which is written SJEDS (San Jose Episcopal Day School).  Jose will wear a San Jose Episcopal Day School uniform when traveling and has his own passport.  Once in China, Jose will adapt to the culture and probably wear traditional Chinese dress.  Prior to leaving, Jose is visiting in classrooms and the children love having him. We had such a good time with Jose! As you can see from our class website, we took lots of pictures with him. After spending two days with us, we are sure he is exhausted! He told us he will use this long weekend to relax and prepare for his visit in Mrs. Edwards’ class on Monday.
During his stay with us, he pretty much went everywhere with us! On Wednesday, he started his day going to Chapel. He was able to hear some of our favorite chapel songs and our extra-special prayers. At lunchtime, he enjoyed Mrs. Hazel’s nacho salad and chicken nuggets on Wednesday and Thursday. By reading with some of our students, he learned how to be such a good reader! During calendar time, he learned all about the states and capitals. His favorite state is Kentucky. On Thursday he came in fully prepared to take his sight and spelling tests! We were all amazed at how well he had studied. We even made a video clip of Jose joining in our Huddle today! Our Huddle is a time for us to get together and share some good news and what we’re looking forward to over the next week. Jose said his good news what that he has had such a good time with all of his PreK-1st grade friends. He is looking forward to traveling to China and filling us in on all his adventures with Mrs. Tolisano and Mrs. St. Cyr. We didn’t like saying goodbye to him. We will miss him very much. We look forward to hearing all about his exciting experiences in China!

We had such a great time getting to know Jose.He came to our class and was able to stay for two days! He participated in calendar time and was able to help our class find China on the map. He had a great time reading with the children during silent reading time and had fun with our class pet Max. He seemed to really enjoy himself listening to the wonderful presentation from the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra on Monday. After learning from Mrs. Encarnacion’s Pre-K class that Jose would be on a plane for 15 hours and 55 minutes, first grade decided to make Jose a special handprint quilt to take on his trip. We hope that it will keep him cozy and help him to remember us and the great time we had together. We can’t wait to hear about his adventures in China!

We had a great time with Jose this week! While he was in our class, Jose enjoyed participating in language arts, math, and social studies. He was especially interested in the Boston Tea Party! We made a class video with Jose that we would like for Mrs. Tolisano and Ms. St. Cyr to share with students in China. Jose loved free play! His favorite playground activity is soccer and he loved celebrating a birthday with the class. Cupcakes are his favorite dessert!
Jose also helped us find China on the map and told us all about the exciting places he will visit. He was excited to take his picture with Gary (the hermit crab), our class pet, and loved reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory with our class. We are so glad that Jose came visit us and wish him well on his big trip!

Jose was welcomed into our classroom before he even set foot in the door. The kids were extremely excited to have him as a guest after hearing about the other first grade classes’ experiences with Jose the Bear. The children gently passed Jose around for two days as they went about their normal activities. Jose learned how to draw a face at the art center, ate chicken noodle soup at lunch, and even learned to walk during recess! He especially enjoyed calendar and learning about the 50 states. He even showed us where China was on the map! We are sad to see him leave but are grateful to be able to communicate with him while he is gone.

Our class has had a wonderful time with Jose the Bear the last couple of days. He got to go to music, fruits, recess, lunch, and religious ed. with us. We were so excited to have him enjoy our 2nd grade Thanksgiving feast with us. We really think he like the desserts the best. We are going to miss him alot while he is in China with Mrs. Tolisano and Mrs. St. Cyr. We cannot wait to hear about the adventure he is going to have. Have a great trip. We LOVE Jose!!

We have enjoyed having Jose in our class so much! He has been a great addition to our classroom. He began his day by going to chapel. We were all impressed by how quietly he sat in chapel! After chapel, Jose participated in our language arts activities. Then he was able to travel with us to computer, library, and spanish. We loved having Jose in our class and can’t wait to hear about his trip to China!

Mrs. McGarity’s class would like to know Jose is doing since you’ve arrived in Xi’an? Has he met any new friends?
