Jose meets his new friend Omar

After returning from dinner Jose, being the friendly bear that he is, met a friend right away. We were in the lobby and Jose spied a little fellow named Omar, a dromedary, visiting from the tourist town of Sharm El Sheikh. Omar is traveling with his family to celebrate Ramadan with relatives, and then to do some sightseeing.

Jose and Omar become fast friends and Jose begged for Omar come to our room and play. Mrs. Tolisano and Mrs. Menger introduced themselves to Omar’s parents, and found them to be delightful, and Omar was granted permission to hang out with Jose.

Omar told us that his family was visiting Cairo for only one day, and they will be leaving bright and early next morning. Omar has been to Cairo many times before. Jose and Omar wanted to go for a swim, but the swimming pool is currently closed for repairs. They ended up playing games and then it was time for bed. Omar and Jose exchanged email addresses and promised to keep in touch, and then tearfully said goodbye. On the first day of the trip Jose had made a life long friend in little Omar, the Egyptian camel. Mrs. Tolisano and Mrs. Menger knew they had made a great friend as well.

We are so glad that Jose met Omar on his very first day in Cairo. It is too bad that the pool is closed for repairs. We hope that you have a great adventure with Jose today. We can’t wait to hear about what you have seen.

That Jose is one friendly fellow! We are so happy he’s made a new friend, and know he’ll make many others before he returns to SJEDS. We have questions, though:

Edward - Have you seen any crocodiles or lions yet?
Trenton - Have you seen any mummies?
Grace - Have you had a chance to combine the St. Johns water with the Nile, or the Jacksonville Beach sand with the deserts of Egypt?
Carter - Have you seen the statue of Athena?

More questions on Monday, so goodbye for now! Safe travels to all.

    Dear Mrs. Barnwell’s Class

No, Edward, we have not seen any lions at all. But we have seen 3000 year old mummified crocodiles.

Trenton, yes, we have seen many mummies in the Egyptian Museum in Cairo. We were not allowed to take photos of them though.

Grace, we are going on a Felucca ride today and will put the St. Johns river water into the Nile then. Watch for photos and a movie clip about it soon.

Carter, we have not seen any statues of Athena.

    Talk to you soon.
    Keep the questions coming.
