Welcome to the San Jose Summer Mathquest!
We will post eight chapters during the summer, beginning this week, June 15th, and each week thereafter. There are two versions of the story, one for rising grades 2 and 3, and one with slightly harder problems for rising grades 4, 5, and 6. Each chapter will continue the story of Luwalo on his first journey across the Sahara Desert. You must help him solve problems that will make his trip easier. The last chapter is a secret code that Luwalo’s father gave to him. Each mathquest will be posted on the San Jose blog under Summer Mathquest. Be sure to look for the posts on these dates: Today, June 16, June 22, June 29, July 6, July 13, July 20, July 27, and August 3.
You may write the answers on a separate sheet of paper or print them out and turn them in the first week of school. This is not optional, so do your best and have fun!

Dear Parents
Fifty-five years of excellence! As we move toward our 56th year, there is much to celebrate.
Recently, twenty-six members of our San Jose Episcopal community gathered to flesh out a new Strategic Long Range Plan. National Association of Episcopal Schools consultant Laura Walker led us as we considered the future of our school and the roads we would travel to assure continued success while living into our mission. Six areas of interest were identified and six committees will form. Parents, if strategic planning service is interesting to you, please let us know of your interest. You are always an important voice and guide in what we accomplish.
Parents, before you slip into summer, let me thank you for what you’ve done! Our school is stronger in every sense because you have been a part of what we accomplished.
Thank you, Parents’ Association. It has been a banner year, concluding with Spring Fling, the Gala, and the final luncheon. The theme for the Gala was “Off to the Races”, and, of course, we were and are. In every aspect, San Jose is a winner! Heartfelt thanks to each of you.
My hat’s also off to our superbly qualified faculty who daily inspire our children. Their unparalleled dedication is to children and education. As a complete school, we offer valuable resources in the arts (drama, music, band, fine art) and technology exploration, Spanish, science and an award winning physical education program. Fruits of the Spirit abound and promote character development and are supported by our school counselor and the church’s youth minister. Our religious curriculum nurtures our children and gives foundational strength in both Biblical and historical understanding. Individual classes and respective community service projects focus on growing servant hearts as students learn to consider the needs of the world around them. It is what children become that is truly important!
Further, I am grateful to the Jessie Ball duPont Fund for their continuing support of our school’s global program. To date, faculty has traveled to China, Egypt, and Latin America. In the coming year, travel will be to Italy. This is travel that involves teaching at its best, and it uses technology to provide a virtual travel tour for your children who accompany our traveling teachers via their first class classroom seats.
We wish you a joyous summer, one filled with excitement, adventure and love of family. Enjoy the small moments and the big ones. Take time to be together, and know that God is, indeed, good.
In Christ,
Jean Dodd
Mrs. Dawson will be challenging our children, again, this summer with a Summer Math Quest. The summer packet that your child received the last day of school should have a page with the details. We will start emailing eight weekly installments in June. We will post a schedule soon, so you will know when to look for your email. If you did not receive the information regarding the Math Quest, or have misplaced it, you may click here to download the information sheet Summer Math 2nd-6th grades
